The first CAT Workshop for 2009 has been successfully completed.
All but one (and one apology) of the East London CAT schools were
present........a great turnout.....well done !!!!
I
must thank my workshop committee for their help and presentations at
the workshop......their input was most professional and appreciated.
Thanks to Jolande Steyn, Nicole Page, Hannelie Jordaan and Marcel
Sammons.
The Resource CD distributed contains much material you will be able
to use when preparing your lessons this year. Enjoy the year and
please twin with another school.....it helps relieve the stress of
teaching alone.
Our next workshop will be on Macros in Excel. (Date, Time and Venue
to be announced later.) We propose to have a workshop / training /
meeting per term.

With the first NCS CAT and IT exams now a thing of the past, we need
to look at ways to improve our teaching and learning.
On 7-9 January, training for Educators who missed out on the original NCS
training a few years ago took place at the EL Education Leadership
Institute. This was well attended by over 40 Educators from
Districts throughout the province. Unfortunately only 1 Educator
from the East London District attended.
Resources were distributed!
Some CAT Educators were contacted directly by Head Office to attend
a CAT 3 course at NMMU this past week. We trust they all passed the
grueling week!
I
am looking for weekly contributions by you the Educators. These can
be in the format of articles, content advice, lessons, tests and
memos, etc. (Look at the IT Newsletter 1)
We
will be hosting a "2 afternoon" workshop on CAT shortly. The dates
still need to be decided as the District Office is currently busy
with School Readiness Visits. Watch this space.
Should you require urgent assistance and response, you are
encouraged to create a gmail email address (http://mail.google.com)
where we can communicate via the instant chat service. This has
proven to be most valuable! .....and it is FREE!
PAT: I have emailed Carina at Head Office and she hopes to have the
2009 PAT topic out next week. At this stage it looks as if the same
PAT 2008 document will be used for assessment.
