INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
TERM 1 - 2009
1. Tests: All tests will be common papers, they must be set by a deadline and mailed to all teachers involved. If possible password-protect it, and sms the password. Please keep these papers confidential until everyone has written them. What might help is to mail your test dates so everyone is aware of what is happening.
2. Setting of papers:
a. Grade 10 – Hudson; must be mailed to everyone for moderation by 3rd Feb
b. Grade 11 – Selborne; must be mailed to everyone for moderation by 10th Feb
c. Grade 12 – Stirling; must be mailed to everyone for moderation by 10th Feb (THEORY); the practical task is the first activity in the CASS file (2d arrays)
(if your test dates are before the deadline, get in touch asap so we can make a plan! To be on safe side, if you can set the test dates a week after the moderation date it would be great)
d. When moderating and you do not agree with a certain question or way of asking, please don’t just comment but rather replace and fix the problem.
e. WORK TO BE COVERED FOR TESTS:
i. GRADE 10: Study Opportunities textbook pg 1 – 61 incl basic Delphi concepts; for more in detail list of work please refer to the next page
ii. GRADE 11: Study Opportunities textbook pg 5 – 48; as well as revision of if statements, loops, and basic programming done in Grade 10
iii. GRADE 12: Grade 11 work, Grade 12 Hardware and Software, basic knowledge of textfiles, arrays, loops, procedures and functions
f. MEMO – must be mailed with the paper, makes moderating of the paper a lot easier. Please password protect as well!
g. ALL CASS TASKS MUST BE DONE IN CLASS AND UNDER TEST CONDITIONS! You want the learner to produce work that reflect their ability and not too high marks that don’t correspond with the formal tasks’ marks!
3. Try and complete ALL Cass tasks by 6 March; that will give you enough time to finish marking as well as get term marks ready and most importantly make sure you work is ready for the first CASS moderation in April.
4. PAT! The Grade 12s need to start with the Phase 1 of their PAT in the first term. Phase 1 is the planning stage, they must be given the rubric to ensure that they know what is expected of them. Make sure that you set a deadline that will leave you enough time to have the Phase marked by the end of the holiday to hand back to them as well as to have it ready for Cass Moderation.
5. Enough for now! Have fun and keep the communication lines open; let’s see if all this common stuff is going to make life easier.
